Weekly Fishing Report

Another week of mainly good weather and also good fishing, although Thursday was a bit of a toughie as we had a bit more S.E. than forecast, forcing us to stay around the Middle Ground which was it's usual frustrating self, a bit of sign, some undersize snapper, 1 or 2 just legals and not much else.

As soon as the wind dropped we headed outside Motiti where things improved, but we got the tail end of the feed time, so a bit of a slow day.

Friday and Sat. were a big improvement, settled conditions, beautiful days and more fish.

We're seeing more reasonable snapper amongst the tarakihi, as well as the odd trevally and red snapper[one of the nicest eating of all], a good mix and good catches.

Sunday we had a day hapuku trip, early start and we picked up some more skippies on the way out and saw another good sized marlin. So they're still around with the skippies.

The hapuku fishing was less successful than our previous trips, excellent conditions but not much sign on the sounder and not a lot of fish, some nice gemfish, one smallish bass, a rays bream and a couple of good hook ups that didn't stay hooked.

We headed to Mayor for some bottom fishing and got a lot of good tarakihi which made the day. Quite often it works that way , good bottom fishing, hard drift fishing and vice versa. Still, fish is fish.
