Weekly Fishing Report

We covered a bit of ground last week with pretty similar results in most places, good conditions and sign, just a bit slower fishing.

Tuesday we had an evening trip with a good bunch from the Warehouse. Once more the fishing was pretty slow, got a little bit of variety, snapper, gurnard, tarakihi and trevally, whish we cooked and ate as we fished, a nice laid back evening. We worked around Brewis Shoals on Wed. and had a reasonable result including a 25lb kingfish that Gary Wilson, over from Melbourne, caught on ledger rig with a bit of tuatua bait but that was the high point of the day. we continued to get tarakihi and the odd snapper, another nice day on the water.

Saturday looked like it could get a bit lumpy so as we had a group of truckies from over the hill [Mourey's] we tried around the middle ground inside Motiti initially. It had nothing worth mentioning and the weather didn't happen so we went out to the deeper water and encountered the most current I've seen for a while, lines really racing away from the boat once they got near the bottom. Got some nice snapper and tarakihi when the tide eased, but it picked up again quickly and that was it. We did see our first Sunfish of the season though, not too surprising, as there's been heaps of jellyfish around, and followed it up with another sighting next time out. All good signs for the rapidly approaching summer.
