Weekly Fishing Report

We've had a steady improvement in the weather, witness the fine Labour Weekend, almost a 1st in recorded history. The fishing's continued to be pretty sporadic. We had a good day on Wed, tried around the pinnacles and 10 mile, with plenty of tarakihi after a slow start, also some barracuda, but interestingly, they were all full of krill. The way they've been showing on the sounder has been well off the bottom, but no real evidence of current, which is a main reason for slow fishing. Too much, and they'll just wait till after the slack water when it eases and feed then. When krills' around everything feeds on it, so they're not as keen on bait. Sat. around Mayor was slow but picked up after the tide change, Sunday and Monday were just hard everywhere we tried, and that was because of current, no sign at all on the bottom, boat swinging, and lines running off at all angles. We went to a few different spots, some I haven't tried for quite a while, ending up at the Penguins. Still, plenty of fish around, just none to speak of on the bottom and doing any feeding.
