Weekly Fishing Report

The weather eased for the 1st week of June which was a nice break and we got a few trips in last week. Still covering a fair area, mainly to see if there's a bit less current running at any particular place.

It seems to still be pretty general though, and mainly running from the N.West which is unusual given the amount of S.East wind we've been having. Normally the current roughly follows the predominant  wind direction, but  not this time.

We worked around Motiti and Brewis earlier in the week, still quite reasonable fishing, but heavy sinkers are a must, not only to cut down on tangles, but also to keep the bait on the bottom where the fish are feeding.

An overnighter Fri/Sat with some of my longtime regulars, saw  a good evening fish and a lot of nice sized snapper caught, the two Tony's, Farr and Shores, were picking up the bigger ones, on the down current side of the boat, but Hector, Trevor and the others were still doing quite nicely.

Saturday morning we started well on the tarakihi but as the tide picked up it got pretty slow, and it was only on our last stop that we started catching again. As a last resort, I'd given one of the inner reefs a go and it paid off well, as we got a lot of nice tarakihi and some good snapper as well.

Sunday we had the Romai Club and Motiti was a bit like Mayor, a very good start, when the sea was at its sloppiest ironically, then it just got slower as the weather got better, still, a pretty reasonable tally for the day and a beautiful afternoon as we steamed home.
