Just got back in from our overnighter, and what a trip it was! We were home 6 hours early as the crew had all but caught thier limit of snapper and tarakihi!
We fished right through the night, catching until sun rise, when we decided it was time to have a shift around and give ourselves some time to cook breakfast.
We moved onto our second spot and while we were serving breaky, Les got a really nice snapper, and at 14lb it was not only a personal best, but the biggest fish of the trip to date.
There were plenty of nice ones amongst them with some of the other fishe weighing just under the 10lb mark. The smallest of the pannies being kept would have been around the 33-34 cm mark, and anything below that was being thrown back due to the amount of quality fish coming aboard.
Tomorrow looks to be a right off due to weather conditions, but it would sure be nice to see this pattern of big fish and settled weather stifking around for quite some time!
Long may it continue!

Still predominantely settled wether and good fishng happening, due to the La Ninya weather pattern.
Theres also been noticeably more gannets and dolphind around lately and some big schools of kahawai and bait fish in fairly close, which is all good.
It'll be interesting to see if the fishing companies appeal to increase thier kahawai catch at the high court has succeeded. I hope not, its been a bonus having the schools untouched over the last season.
Fair enough if they are being used to feed people, but when its just for fertilizer or Aussie cray bait, its not a good thing.
Got an overnight reef fish tonight, so hopefully we can get into some snapper tonight, and big fat tarakihi tomorrow!

Well, Junes got off to a great start weather and fishing wise, with settled weather and good fishing.
Mayor Continues to fish well with good quantities of tarakihi more consistently showing up.
The offshore reefs and around Motiti are also going well, with the currents that were evident easing a lot, giving a bit more consistency to the fishing, rather than fairly short bite times we were having last month.
The snapper arent quite as prevelant as the were, but still some nice pannies around.
We are seeing more John Dory showing up with has been good to see. Some big ones in amongst them as well.
