Evening to Night Fishing in Tauranga for Snapper, Tarakihi and Trevally

Evening fishing is a perfect way to spend a warm summer’s night fishing for Snapper, Tarakihi and Trevally, as well as a range of other reef fish.

Evening to Night fishing is perfect for those who can’t get out fishing during the day due to work constraints but can make it out for the evening.

From January through to May/June is the perfect time for the evening fishing, as the Snapper tend to move into the shallower waters around Karewa and the middle ground between Motiti and Mt Maunganui.

The fishing is typically shallower than our day fishing trips, ranging anywhere from 15m – 50m, depending on the moon, tidal flows, and weather conditions.

The tackle used is generally ledger rigs with 3/0 hooks and a 5oz – 12oz sinker depending on the depth of water being fished. Squid, tua tua and skip jack tuna are usually the most successful baits for the evening fishing trips, with mullet, pilchards and octopus also accounting for their fair share of fish.
